Gotye Hearts a Mess

Hearts A Mess

Pick apart
The pieces of your heart
And let me peer inside
Let me in
Where only your thoughts have been
Let me occupy your mind
As you do mine

You have lost
Too much love
To fear, doubt and distrust
(It’s not enough)
You just threw away the key
To your heart

You don’t get burned
(’Cause nothing gets through)
It makes it easier
(Easier on you)
But that much more difficult for me
To make you see…

Love ain’t fair
So there you are
My love

Your heart’s a mess
You won’t admit to it
It makes no sense
But I’m desperate to connect
And you, you can’t live like this

Love ain’t safe
You won’t get hurt if you stay chaste
So you can wait
But I don’t wanna waste my love

song

Sometimes the songs just hit you in the face with their beautiful melodies, notes hand in hand, flying through the air. Old memories flood back in a millisecond, appear alive, real. You are in the moment, every feeling runs through your body. With a blink you see what you once saw around you, the smells reach your nose. You are in that specific moment, that second of time when you felt something. Emotions rush around your body, go amok in your chest and end up in your head. Then you open your eyes, hear the music and you are back, back in the now.

EUROVISION, be there or be square!

Tonight is THE night, Eurovision is on yet again. Yes, it's that time again, to bring out your country's flag and root for your song (I would write singer/songwriter, but we all know that's not the case cause who really know where they find these people). Nationalism will be on a high all over Europe (and in the Middle East, why does Israel get to join in exactly?), however, there won't be any wars as a result, well hopefully not! The Norwegian and Danish entries are equally bad, although, the Danish drag queen should prove to be the most entertaining. To be fair all the songs are usually terrible, all countries' entries as bad taste as humanly possible. I have to say though, that I liked it better back in the day when each country had to sing in their own language...it made it more interesting somehow. Now almost all the participants sing in English, which can prove to be entertaining in itself as some of them don't even know the language and the lyrics can be (how can I put this nicely) challenging to say the least. It's hilarious when you have an Eastern European 'actress' singing "I feel good" whilst almost shedding a tear! You gotta love it - Europe will gather around the television sets and ooo and aaaa over dramatic costumes, bad songs, bad hair, bad lyrics and really really horrible voices. United Europe is what we are tonight, the only time in the year we are united - not in spirit, but in our collective tv watching.

We all have our hobbies

I used to have a hobby. I used to sing, ones or twice a week when I was a kid. Well, I was a teenager when I stopped. Over night I decided to give it up, I didn't get into the musical line at College so I decided not to sing again. Sad really, my stubborn side getting to me I guess.. If they won't have me no one will! What a stupid little brat I was! Some might say I still am, but that's a whole different post all together. Anyway at the moment I can't really say I have a hobby, unless you could say listening to music, going out dancing with friends, having occasional sex, drinking coffee with loads of Greeks, sometimes doodling a sketch or two, surfing the web or just being pathetic a hobby? Naaaah.
However, the other day I found out that my sister has found a hobby - growing flowering plants on a large scale, and when I say large scale I mean large scale. About 50 little buds have taken over her windowsills and balcony. Impressive, no? Seriously, if I had her green fingers I would be growing stuff too (maybe not the legal kind, but thank God I don't). plants are good company though, they never judge you, they always (for most of us, who water our plants once in a while) flower, they add to the atmosphere of any old shabby place and they give joy through their very existence. You go girl!

Might be a while

I'm in Denmark, arrived on Monday, and since then my sis and I have been getting ready for THE festival, Roskilde of course! For the past 11 years we have been in front of the Orange Stage rocking it hard, and this year will be no exception. We spent a lot of time yesterday looking for wellies for my sis, which ended up being her belated birthday present. Then after half an hour of so rest at hers we headed to Christiania for some relaxing yoga, yes a boxer like myself can try more spiritual forms of exercise. However, I have to say didn't feel the spirituality rising inside me, although my sis and her friend Jesper would have hoped. The stretching is good, but all it did for me was stretch one of the muscles in my foot too much and this morning I woke up with an extremely sore foot and difficulties walking properly...So much for yoga I guess - my sis says its because I have too developed muscles - I don't, especially not in my foot! Well after the session we headed for a bite to eat and a smoke of course, it being the place for such affairs. It was all lovely and the weather was great all day in fact. Rain has been predicted for my entire stay, but I figure the weather Goddess heard my prayer :D Today we went to the festival site for the first time this year, and the weather held up then too so she is listening, just post a prayer and you'll find out. We put up our tent in the Media camp and helped, well sis helped I couldn't really since I was given strict orders to stay off my feet, setting up the Norberg bar next to Danish P3, which is kinda the Danish version of Radio 1. Tomorrow we go back and start working and hopefully see a lot of great music...I have to return to the real world for a while, but I'll be back once I've gathered myself after the immense drunkenness and lack of real sleep, and there will be pics! So let's all cross our fingers and toes for nice weather, good stories and lots and lots of good music.

just a little note from the trip back home

Sitting on the train, outside my window the dark sky bleakens the landscape. The train is caught between fog and open landscape with lurking threatening clouds. Listening to Interpol, suddenly aa aha aa aha - Garbage Untouchable, 'no one is untouchable.' In some places the clouds are touching the ground, incorporating every little thing, houses, sheep, everything. The Scot next to me is talking on the phone. I continue reading Berger's Art and Revolution.
I was told today that Socialism in Britain started in a small town on the Clyde, i.e. here in Scotland. There's something working class about all Scots - it might be the fact that most Scots are!? The rich, the upper class, has always been English here - well times they are'a changing. Many might laugh at the SNP, but not me. I think it'll be good for Scotland - I say this with absolutely no knowledge of their policies (I mean are they right or left?).
We pass through a forest whist Kaizer Chiefs ask 'What did I ever give you?' I look up and we have entered a town, Stonehaven. The station looking new and polished with flowers planted in pretty little wooden barrels, but just behind the newly painted picket fence council housing rises. An elderly woman with a baby(probably her grandson/daughter) points and waves at the train as it passes by.
The fog has created a tunnel surrounding the train. Next stop Aberdeen. N.e.x.t. s.t.o.p. A.b.e.r.d.e.e.n.
A little rabit jumps into the bush, startled by the passing monster. Lynn's cousin lives around here - HELLO! If it wasn't foggy I would see the North Sea once again before I board the plane. Looking at all the field I imagine what it looked like hundreds of years ago...maybe a thick forest of giant needle trees.
It seems colder.
The suburbs of Aberdeen, children playing surrounded by grey stone houses, its all grey now in the fog. We enter the commercial area, are we there already? The harbour is right next to the station, seagulls are begging for food.
I have to get off, we've arrived.
