Back on the Island

I am back in Scotland, to stay until I finish the task that is standing between me and a Dr in front of my name, i.e. the thesis. It's warmer over here than in Norway, but somehow I am frozen to the bone most of the time, there's central heating in our flat, but the heat they produce seem to escape through the 19th century windows...I really don't get why you would have central heating installed in your house and then not fix the windows, so you end up spending just as much on heating as you would without it cause it all disappears out into the fresh Scottish air instead of keeping the bodies indoor warm. But hey, Scottish building methods and technical logic has always escaped me, such as the radiators being placed next to the door, rather than the window (in the middle of the room) which would actually efficiently heat up the whole room rather than just the entrance to the room...
The weather hasn't been too bad I have to say, although it is back to its grey matter state as of two days ago, it was really nice for a couple of days after I arrived...sunny even. It will only get better though, which is a relief, by the end of March it will be sunny and although the occasional shower it will move towards summer.
Being back in the village has its perks, on top of the drop in temperature and the job that lured me back, walking distance to everything, friends that I have been missing a lot, cheaper food and drink, an office to work out of (well it hasn't proved useful yet), the general academic milieu of course and last but not least the opportunity to box again! First training tonight is gonna hurt a lot I know it, but after (let's hope) a couple of weeks I'll be fitter and enjoying the benefits more than the muscle pain.
The job entails tutoring 20th century art history, so it will be pretty easy (I hope), and will be interesting as well as useful (they have to read art theory and artist's writings for each class) for my lack of interest lately and bring me back into art-mode, hopefully!
