Reviewing the art of procrastination

Some good and some bad news this morning. Had my review meeting and the Head of School and previous supervisor aka boss nr 2 were the ones conducting it, as expected it was more of a chat about how things are going rather than a 'review' of my progress and strict pointing fingers saying: 'What have YOU been doing this past year? Why have YOU not done MORE?' It always amuses me how laid back our department is compared to other departments, maybe that is why we don't have as many students passing through the system as quickly as they should (well according to the university anyway, 3 years and you're out!). I was told by the School Head today, ' well you are just on your (counting his fingers) 4th year now. That's normal. Nothing to worry about, or go home crying about.' That's real support if I ever heard any! The good news is therefore, that I passed through the system checkup once again, and all my drives are running smoothly, at least according to the review 'panel'. Bad news is boss nr 2 deciding I will not be finishing by the end of September. Big :( to that, but I won't cry just yet. As I told them on the way out of the door, 'My overall plan is to finish before I am 30, and that's January 2010 so plenty of time!' Which was quickly followed by boss nr 2's comeback 'So did I!?!' Actually I would be happy staying a student forever, but that just can't happen, since at some point I will be without money (i.e. funding from one government or another) and my loan will not start decreasing until I have a job - Hello REAL world! - to pay it off. Well well, I guess the wheels are continuing to turn and at some point I will (hopefully) get out of this village.

So how do you rate your own progress?

Realistically - like they do, as in I'm aware I might take a little longer than expected.
Idealistically - excellent! I could be finished tomorrow!
