farewell my dear friend

Their eyes meet, instant recognition, instant familiarity. A shy smile curl her lips, yet she quickly remembers and the joy disappears from her face. She battles with herself - does she want to say goodbye, does she want to cut all threads? She looks into his dark eyes and in a split second she falls deep into them forgetting the world surrounding them. 'It is better this way' he thinks while knowing he will not forget her, will not empty his heart of her scent. Even when she is standing a meter away from him he can smell her - how he loves that smell, the sweetness of her perfume and her skin. He waits for her to say something, but he knows there is nothing more to say. He looks up at the departure's board, just half an hour left until she will be standing on the ground and he will be in the air. 'I better go.' A sting of electric currents go through her body, from her head to her feet and back into her heart. She struggles not to start crying, yet a salty tear escapes the corner of her eye. She sees him noticing, she turns her face away from him trying to hide it. He immediately takes her face in his hands and kisses the tear away, it tastes of her he thinks to himself. She looks into the darkness again and kiss his lips goodbye like she did to the rest of him all night long. She should have stayed away from this place, she should have stayed at home, now she has to sit alone all the way back on the train. She looks up at him again, his eyes are wet, yet he smiles down at her. 'Let's part with a smile now, let's be happy we met and let's be brave and continue living.' She hears his words, but she can't imagine how things will be without him. 'Can I write you?' she stutters. 'If you want, doll. I might not reply.' She thinks he is cold, but she knows he is suffering too. She puts her arms around his neck, caressing his hair one last time. He feels her fingers and wishes he could hold that moment forever, lock it up in a special chamber of his heart. He knows he has to go, he has waited too long already. His chest feels heavy, but he has to be strong. He knew this moment would come, he had started preparing for it long ago. He casts a final glance into her blue eyes. They are filled with tears now, it pains him to see her like that. He kisses her forehead, her little nose and finally her tender soft lips for the last time. 'Goodbye little one.' He turns around and slips away through the security control. He can not let her see his tears, let her see his loss. 'Everything will change now' they both think while walking away from each other.
