EUROVISION, be there or be square!

Tonight is THE night, Eurovision is on yet again. Yes, it's that time again, to bring out your country's flag and root for your song (I would write singer/songwriter, but we all know that's not the case cause who really know where they find these people). Nationalism will be on a high all over Europe (and in the Middle East, why does Israel get to join in exactly?), however, there won't be any wars as a result, well hopefully not! The Norwegian and Danish entries are equally bad, although, the Danish drag queen should prove to be the most entertaining. To be fair all the songs are usually terrible, all countries' entries as bad taste as humanly possible. I have to say though, that I liked it better back in the day when each country had to sing in their own language...it made it more interesting somehow. Now almost all the participants sing in English, which can prove to be entertaining in itself as some of them don't even know the language and the lyrics can be (how can I put this nicely) challenging to say the least. It's hilarious when you have an Eastern European 'actress' singing "I feel good" whilst almost shedding a tear! You gotta love it - Europe will gather around the television sets and ooo and aaaa over dramatic costumes, bad songs, bad hair, bad lyrics and really really horrible voices. United Europe is what we are tonight, the only time in the year we are united - not in spirit, but in our collective tv watching.

What an interesting comment about language. I hope that one day every country will present its entry in Esperanto. Take a look at www.esperanto.net
